Advanced Preceptorship in Wound Healing
Wound Healing Education for Surgeons, Two days of Intensive Clinical Training

Dr. Harold Brem invites a select number of surgical wound care specialists to attend an advanced Preceptorship course to further enhance their surgical and clinical skills. Attendees can expect to participate in the following activities during the Preceptorship: observe live surgical cases, Q&A sessions, open discussion and attend rounds in the inpatient dedicated unit and outpatient wound center. This course will provide attendees the best exposure to the continuity of care experience.

The advanced Preceptorship will be two full days of training (Thursday and Friday). Thursday's session has been designed to refine the surgical skills and debridement techniques of clinicians operating on a variety of challenging wounds. Friday's session has been designed to teach attendees how to implement evidence-based wound protocols and review the clinical application of wound healing principles.

On Thursday you will observe actual clinical cases in the operating room.
On Friday you will observe our intreprofessional wound outpatient center. In our center, you will have the opportunity to see selected patients from our usual daily census of 80-100 patients. Typical wound diagnoses that you will see are:

  • Venous ulcers
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Abdominal wounds
  • Any other non healing wound

NYU serves a multicultural population across the age continuum. Our patients typically have multiple comorbitities and complex wounds.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Surgical skills
  • Clinical diagnosis
  • Debridement techniques
  • Treatment and therapy options
  • Expectation of healing in each patient
  • Wound-specific, evidence-based protocols
  • Managing patient comorbidities
  • Administrative and billing procedures

The cost tuition to participate in our advanced preceptorships is $249.
In order to give you individual attention you deserve, space is limited to 6 participants. Therefore early registration is highly recommended, so we can accommodate your choice of dates.
